Question one, where is oxytocin produced and released?

Oxytocin is produced by the hypothalamus and released by the posterior pituitary gland. Question two. What are the key

functions of oxytocin? It stimulates uterine contractions during labour, facilitates breast milk ejection and encourages social bonding.

Question 3.

What are the different roles of prolactin and oxytocin in breastfeeding?

Prolactin controls breast milk production and oxytocin controls breast milk ejection.

Question 4. When might oxytocin be used as a treatment during labour and delivery. It's used for induction of labour to initiate and stimulate labour,

for active management of the third stage of labour, to encourage delivery of the placenta,

and to treat postpartum haemorrhage to encourage the bleeding to stop when there's

bleeding after delivery of the baby.
