In a lot of ways, I kind of grew up thinking I was white.

And what I mean by that is I knew my skin looked different,

but I didn't actually really have like a way to know what I was,

how I would identify.

I had a lot of shame about who I was.

And a lot of that stemmed from my family and particularly my grandmother, who I was very

close with, had really, like, negative, hostile and racist attitudes towards black people.

And it confused me. But it also, in some ways, I, like, normalized it because I thought that that was how things were.

It's showtime, everybody! Showtime!
