Happy Friday. Are there some things that you have never done as a gardener?

0:06.0

If you're a new gardener, there's probably a lot of things you've never done.

0:10.0

But after eight years of gardening, there are some things that I can honestly say that I have never done.

0:17.0

One of those things is planting certain crops from seed indoors. I have been seed starting indoors

0:24.1

from my very first season, but there are some that I looked and I'm like, I don't think I've

0:29.1

ever started these indoors. So I'm going to share with you today five seeds that I have never

0:34.9

started indoors because I get people asking these questions or they might say

0:39.5

that they're planning on starting some of these indoors and I try to discourage them not to.

0:43.6

So I'm going to go over real quick what those five are and briefly why I have never started them

0:48.7

indoors. Number one, corn. From what I hear, corn does not love to be transplanted, but that's really not the

0:57.0

reason I don't start corn indoors. The main reason is because you need a lot of corn to make a good

1:03.6

harvest. I think the smallest amount of space I devoted for corn was a four by eight raised bed.

1:09.2

They still didn't properly pollinate, so I really think

1:11.7

you even need more than that. So if you're talking about at least 32 plants, if not more,

1:17.1

that is a lot of indoor grow space, especially if you don't have a lot of indoor growth space.

1:22.6

To me, corn planted at the proper time is just super easy to plant in the garden. It's just not worth

1:28.1

messing with trying to start them indoors. Number two, black eyed peas. Really the same reason as

1:34.7

corn. You need a lot of black eyed peas to be able to make a good harvest. I chuckled because someone

1:41.2

on Instagram messaged me on New Year's Day that she was able to make black

1:46.6

eyed peas for New Year's. That was the whole reason she grew them last year. But she learned the

1:51.4

hard way that you need a lot of black eyed peas to make a good harvest and that was all that

1:55.7

she had gotten from her planting. Truly, you have to do a lot to be able to get enough to make it worth your while.
