Good morning. It is Sunday, May the 23rd. I'm Ali Velshi. Any day now, the Senate could vote on legislation to create an independent commission to investigate the January 6th insurrection and

attack on the U.S. Capitol. If that vote takes place, it is expected to fail,

since right now zero Senate Republicans stand in support of it. Just 35 Republicans in the House

voted for the commission, which would be bipartisan and based on the famed 9-11 commission.

The crux of the GOP's argument was summed up by Senator Marco Rubio, who says the commission

is, quote, a partisan joke and, quote, about damaging Republicans. Well, finding out the truth about

what happened on January 6th isn't actually partisan or shouldn't be, and the investigation

isn't about damaging Republicans. It's about finding facts, and it just so happens to be a fact that the insurrection and attack on the Capitol was undertaken by a violent mob of domestic extremists loyal to the Republican Party and president.

Rubio also claimed that, quote, there's no cover up here. We already know what happened. But do we? Because just days ago, a United States Senator

Ron Johnson publicly said that this is what happened. The fact, the matter is, even calling
