But first, the big idea.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and other senior officials in Moscow sought to influence

the 2020 election by spreading misleading information about Joe Biden through prominent

individuals, some of whom were close to former President Donald Trump.

The Post's Ellen Nakashima reports that while this new report does not identify those

individuals by name, it appears to reference Trump's personal lawyer, Rudolf Giuliani,

whose repeated meetings with a suspected Russian agent came under scrutiny by U.S. officials.

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence said in his report that both Russia and Iran

tried to influence the election.

The recently declassified report said that no foreign government attempted to change

votes or alter the results.

As the electioneered, Moscow tried to undermine the candidate it saw as most detrimental to

its interests in the region.

And when he was Vice President, Biden played a leading role in the Obama administration's

Ukraine policy, and its support for the anti-Pu-in opposition in Russia.

The Premlin has long-favorite Trump, who throughout his tenure expressed support for Putin,

and distressed of his own intelligence community.
