Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared a three-day cease fight in Ukraine from May 8th

to the 11th and called on Kyiv to do the same.

The Kremlin said the decision was based on, quote, humanitarian considerations to coincide

with the 80th anniversary of World War II's Victory Day and the defeat of Nazi Germany.

An advisor to the head of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskyy's office said that, quote,

the ceasefire must be unconditional because everything else is just Putin's tactical games.

It comes just days after President Donald Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart, Vladimir Zelensky,

found time on Saturday for a 15-minute meeting in St. Peter's Basilica as world leaders waited

for Pope Francis's funeral to begin. It was their first face-to-face meeting since the explosive Oval Office news conference

two months ago, and Trump seemed happy with how the meeting went.

I see him as calmer.

I think he understands the picture, and I think he wants to make a deal.

When asked if Zelensky was ready to concede Crimea to Russia, which has been a key

sticking point in negotiations

over a peace deal. Trump said this.

Oh, I think so, yeah.

Germany's defense minister warned yesterday that Trump's plan for Ukraine to give

up land to Russia would be a, quote, capitulation.

A massive power outage has knocked out electricity across parts of Spain, France and Portugal,

and it's shutting down traffic lights and causing chaos for some airports, trains and motorists.
