Summary
In this episode of Psychedelics Today, Joe Moore sits down with Alan Davis, Associate Professor at Ohio State University, to explore the evolving landscape of Ibogaine research and its therapeutic potential.
Alan offers a deep dive into the Iboga Patient Survey, a groundbreaking initiative collecting real-world data on the safety and efficacy of Ibogaineβparticularly for those struggling with substance use disorders and mental health challenges. The conversation sheds light on the need for rigorous, community-informed research that could pave the way toward FDA approval and increased access for patients, including veterans dealing with trauma.
They also discuss the complexities of clinical trials, the tension between state and federal regulations, and the growing influence of corporate interests in psychedelic research. Alan emphasizes the importance of ethical transparency, community collaboration, and maintaining scientific integrity as the field grows.
If you're curious about the intersection of psychedelic medicine, clinical research, and patient safety, this is a must-listen episode.

| 0:00.0 | Hello, everybody, welcome back to Psychedelics. This is Joe Moore. Today on the show, we have |
| 0:25.6 | Alan Davis, PhD, associate professor at Ohio State University and adjunct faculty at John Hopkins. |
| 0:33.2 | We talk primarily about a project going on at his center, the Center for Psychedelic Drug Research and Education. |
| 0:41.3 | It's kind of an Ibogaine patient survey. |
| 0:44.6 | And it's a major effort to gather real data around safety and outcomes on Iboga and Ibogaine. |
| 0:51.0 | And I think it's really important because this is a really, I think, going to be an |
| 0:57.0 | essential drug in the future. And there's some risks. And we need to figure those out. And we also |
| 1:02.7 | want to like get a real, you know, scientific view of what's happening out there. Because a lot |
| 1:08.4 | of what we have from the IbBigo iboga world is really |
| 1:11.5 | anecdotal and that only goes so far right so we um really like this research um for veterans |
| 1:19.3 | people get navigating trauma and those seeking alternative treatments um and this is really cool |
| 1:26.7 | because there's a lot of like room for lessons on ethics |
| 1:31.0 | and collaboration and transparency. There's a little bit too much secrecy in the Iboga space, |
| 1:35.2 | in my opinion. And there's also all sorts of really interesting and problematic IP stuff in the |
| 1:40.9 | Ipoga and Ivagane space. So it's going to be a really interesting landscape. |
| 1:44.9 | And I think this survey, the Iboca patient survey, is really going to help us understand what we |
| 1:50.3 | have ahead of us and how this might look in the future. |
| 1:53.8 | So thank you to Alan Davis for joining us. |
| 1:56.5 | Thanks to all of you for listening. |
| 1:59.1 | And I just want to mention a few things we have coming up and we'll get on with the show. |
| 2:05.1 | September 9th, Kyle's teaching a nine-week program called Essentials of Psychedelic Therapy and Integration. |
