Welcome to Back from the Abyss. I'm Dr. Craig Hecock. One of my heroes is Irvin Yallam,

a psychiatrist and writer. His book so inspired me in my

early years of learning to become a psychiatrist. Today's story concept was sparked by Yolam's book

called Every Day Gets a Little Closer, a twice-told therapy. To create this book, Yolam asked one of

his long-term patients to keep a weekly diary of their

therapy sessions, and he did the same. And then he wove their two very different but fascinating

perspectives together to write the book. I just love this idea, and I thought it would be really

cool to do the Back from the Abyss version of this. So today, in this idea, and I thought it would be really cool to do the Back from the Abyss

version of this.

So today, in this story, Dr. Aaron Jacqueline, a psychologist in Denver, and her 15-year

client, Sherlock, tell their shared story.

With Aaron first meeting Sherlock at the very beginning of her doctoral training, and Sherlock

coming to Aaron at a pivotal point in his life.

To create this episode, I asked Aaron and Sherlock to not discuss their treatment history or

what they might say during the recording.

And then I recorded Aaron and Sherlock separately, asking them each the same questions, and then this magic unfolded.

I'm as excited for the release of this episode as anyone we've ever done.
