Summary

Shaun Flores was only a couple of years into his own struggle with OCD when he became an OCD advocate. He quickly became a stronger messenger of hope through his OCD awareness work.

Recently I had Shaun back on the AT Parenting Survival podcast to discuss how his OCD recovery is going, what he does to maintain progress and how the perception of recovery can be part of a bigger issue.

As Shaun discussed his recovery it became apparent how OCD decimated his financial stability, derailed his career path and left him in debt. Despite those issues, Shaun continued to be a shining light for others.

I have created a Go Fund Me account to show Shaun how much the OCD community appreciates him and all the work he has done. The funds will help Shaun find that stable grounding, cover expenses related to his upcoming knee surgery and help him claw out of the financial hole OCD put him in.

🌸 Any amount will show Shaun he is valued. You can donate here.

Well, hello there and welcome to their episode of the AT Parenting Survival Podcast.

Today I had the pleasure of talking to Sean Flores again.

0:32.7

He is an OCD advocate.

0:34.2

I had him on a few months ago.

0:36.6

He was so well received, parents really appreciated his vulnerability and his candidness in

0:42.4

discussing his OCD journey and how it felt to be a man, to be a black man in the UK having

0:50.8

OCD mental health issues and he's really helping remove stigma on so many different levels,

0:57.0

including some OCD themes that are not often widely discussed as well because people

1:01.9

are too embarrassed to discuss them.

1:03.8

So he's really breaking down a lot of barriers and I was happy to invite him back to touch

1:09.4

base with him, see how he's doing and talk about recovery and maintenance because a lot

1:15.2

of times we think when we look at these OCD advocates, we think they're done, they're

1:20.6

done with OCD, you know, they've reached the top of the hill and really that's a fallacy

1:25.8

because any of us who have mental health struggles know that it's a daily practice and

1:31.5

it's a messy progress and there are bumps and there are hills and there are caves and

dark places that we go to and then we come back up again.
