Summary

Many of us think that if only we can find a qualified anxiety or OCD child therapist, all of our child’s struggles would go away.

I wish that were true. I wish that was the case for the children that I have treated and for my own children.

But the truth is, as parents we have a major role in how our children do. Even if they are refusing help, there are things we do that can help or hurt the situation. There are things that we need to do for ourselves as well in order to survive.

In this week’s AT Parenting Survival Podcast I talk about what our role is as parents and how it can help our kids.

Welcome to the AT Parenting Survival Podcast, where you get help and guidance through

0:08.1

the chaos of parenting a child with anxiety or OCD.

0:12.1

This show is for educational purposes and is not intended to replace the guidance of

0:16.5

a qualified professional.

0:18.0

Here's your host, Child Therapist Natasha Daniels.

0:22.1

Well, hello there, and welcome to another episode of the AT Parenting Survival Podcast.

0:29.3

Today, I want to talk to you about why your child's anxiety or OCD therapy is not enough.

0:36.0

A lot of times we think if we just get them to the right professional, then we're good to go,

0:41.2

and I want to talk to you about our role as a parent, regardless of whether we want that role or not,

0:47.8

which I know can kind of suck because you're like, I don't want a role Natasha.

0:53.5

I didn't sign up for this and I get it.

0:55.5

Oh my gosh, do I get it?

0:57.2

But we are in a position where there are certain things that only we can do,

1:01.3

and I'm not going to just talk about your role as far as your involvement with your child,

1:04.5

but how this impacts your life and why therapy is just one piece of the puzzle.

1:09.8

So you might be doing more than you need to be doing, but there's things that you may not

1:12.8

even be thinking about that are important.

1:15.3

If you haven't found an anxiety or OCD therapist, an anxiety therapist is not that hard to find.

1:21.2

I would have to say, I mean, finding a child therapist in general can be tricky depending on where you

1:25.9

live, but if I'm a child therapist, I'm going to know how to treat anxiety.

1:30.4

And so it's just finding that child therapist, which can be tricky, but not that rare,

1:36.3

right? Depending on where you live.
