Welcome to AT Parenting Survival Podcast, where you get supporting guidance through the chaos of parenting.

0:07.0

Here's your host, Child Therapist Natasha Daniels.

0:11.0

Hello there, and welcome to the AT parenting survival podcast. I hope you're having a fantastic day. I'm going to be talking all about childhood today.

0:21.0

So brace yourselves, depending on what that means for you. I have

0:26.2

found that as a child therapist I have sat on the opposite end of a couch for almost two decades now and I have noticed and observed time and time again

0:39.2

that parents ultimately start talking about their own childhood and how they were

0:43.3

parented and how it influences how they're parenting their anxious child.

0:47.6

And I have found that fascinating and I've seen that in my own parenting as well and I think that if you're human and you had a childhood

0:57.1

that inevitably your childhood is going to influence your parenting and I think it's even more so when you have an anxious child,

1:06.4

depending on your own history with your own anxiety or having relatives who have their own anxiety,

1:13.8

that stuff influences us,

1:15.6

whether we want to admit it or not,

1:17.1

or whether we've even thought about it or not.

1:19.9

And I want to spend some time today talking about that because I think it's so important for us to not just be a victim to this influence whether we are

1:31.4

influenced in a negative way or a good way, but how do we take that regardless of whether it's

1:36.7

positive or negative or in between and use that with intention in our parenting because I have seen where there's not a lot of awareness of how the childhood plays into the parenting and it's actually it's becoming a problem and a barrier to effective parenting

1:55.8

especially parenting an anxious child and I've seen where it's really good but

2:00.3

it could be even better if there was some awareness. So I want to talk about how our child influences us

2:05.6

and especially with anxious kids and kids with OCD as well

2:09.0

so that you can, you know, maybe just spend 30, 40 minutes thinking about this, and really doesn't take

2:15.0

much to really just start to connect the dots and say, what did I like about my childhood?

2:19.4

What did I not like about my childhood?
