Welcome to AT Parenting Survival Podcast, where you get supporting guidance through the chaos of parenting.

0:07.0

Here's your host, Child Therapist Natasha Daniels.

0:11.0

Well, hello there, and welcome to another episode of the AT Parenting Survival

0:15.7

Podcast. I got a lot of requests to do a podcast on how to survive summer with kids with anxiety and OCD?

0:25.0

And that's a really good question.

0:28.0

Because it does tend to bring up some unique issues for those of us that are raising kids with those

0:35.0

struggles. You would think that it wouldn't you think that you know the summer is

0:39.2

going to be relaxed and calm but but really, downtime can exasperate a lot of anxiety and OCD.

0:48.3

Because distraction, as much as I'm not a fan of that because I really like kids to face their issues.

1:21.0

through summer too. Now some of you who are maybe in other parts of the world are not in summer,

1:28.0

you are in winter, so this may not be related to you,

1:31.0

but you can listen to this episode when your summer hits.

1:35.7

For those of you in the U.S. and in Canada and in other areas that are dealing with summer, this

1:41.2

is for you.

1:42.4

So for starters, summer kind of becomes this blob of unstructuredness.

1:50.8

So my first tip, and these are all going to seem very obvious and practical but sometimes you just have to hear it because even though when I'm going to say these things it's kind of like, well yeah, of of course it may not be on your radar.

2:05.0

So structure is really important. A lot of people think summer is a time for my child to kind of reset and loaf around and you know not have to deal with all the stress that school brings and I completely agree.

2:23.2

I think that is really important.
