This story comes to us from Lynn Vanneble, and first appeared in If, Worlds of Science Fiction,

January 1953. Lynn is an American writer who produced a number of influential short stories

in the 1950s. They were once asked, why do you write these things? Why do you like to scare yourself?

And she replied, I don't scare myself. I scare other people.

Vanneble's short story, Time Enough at Last, was adapted for television as an episode of The Twilight

Zone in 1959, starring Burgess Merodeff. This story is frequently anthologized and discussed by

scholars who note it was published in the same year as Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451,

and includes similar themes about reading and books. You're on a rate of this week is Andrew

Lehman. Andrew is one of the founders and proprietors of the H.B. Lovecraft Historical Society,

and has produced and appeared in films, radio dramas, games, music and audio book projects,

based on or inspired by Lovecraft's work. Most notably the emotion picture of the Call of

studies of strange stories, and is the co-host of the podcast Voluminous, the letters of H.B. Lovecraft.
