Hello and welcome to Sudapod. I'm Gwendolen Kist, your host for this week. The author of this week's story is Charlotte Perkins

Gilman. Charlotte Perkins Gilman was an American author born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1860. She wrote numerous short stories as well as the

utopian novel Herland. Her most famous story, The Yellow Wallpaper, is among the most widely

known and widely anthologized horror stories and it was supposedly so influential

that it helped usher in positive change for medical practices toward the mentally ill during its time.

In addition to her fiction, she also wrote the seminal Women and Economics.

Gilman died in 1935 in Pasadena, California.

This story was first published in the New England magazine June 1891 with the byline Charlotte P Stetson.
