Today, we're actually reading two Psalms together, but in the first one, there's an interesting concept that I don't think we hear a lot of teaching on, and it's looking at God as mother.

Now, before you call me a heretic, I have to remind you that as believers were made in the image of God, and male and female together represent this complete

representation of God's character and nature. And if we think about some of the aspects of a mother,

caring and nurturing, bringing comfort

and provision, it reminds us of some of the attributes of God.

And so it's not saying that God is female, but it is going through some of these feminine

characteristics that we see in God and liking them to a mother.

Starting at verse 1 of Psalm 131, we're in the New American Standard Bible version today. Lord, my heart is not proud, nor my eyes arrogant, nor do I involve

myself in great matters or in things too difficult for me. I've certainly soothed and quieted my

soul, like a wean child resting against his mother. My soul within me. I've certainly soothed and quieted my soul like a wean child resting against his mother.

My soul within me is like a wean child. Israel wait for the Lord from this time on and forever.
