Hey friends, I'm Rachel Grohl and I'm your host for the Hearing Jesus podcast, where I help you to know God and to make him known.

As believers, when we fall into sin, I think it's sometimes really hard for us to reconcile that and then come back to God because there's this feeling of guilt and shame.

0:24.7

And if I'm honest, I have felt that.

0:27.1

And I think a lot of other people have felt that as well.

0:29.4

So today what we're going to do is we're going to look at an example of prayer in the Psalms of how to handle those moments when we are seeking that reconciliation,

0:39.1

that restored relationship with God after we've fallen into sin. I think it's part of the

0:44.0

human experience that we can all either recognize that we have experienced in the past or we

0:49.2

will experience it in the future. I'm reading from the new American standard version today,

starting at verse one.

Out of the depths, I have cried to you, Lord, Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to the

1:01.5

sound of my pleadings. If you, Lord, were to keep a count of guilty deeds, Lord, who could stand?

1:07.5

But there is forgiveness with you so that you may be revered. I wait for the Lord. My soul waits,

1:13.3

and I wait for his word. My soul waits in hope for the Lord, more than the watchman for the

morning. Yes, more than the watchman for the morning. Israel wait for the Lord, for with the Lord

1:24.8

there is mercy and with him is abundant redemption and he will redeem Israel

1:29.5

from all his guilty deeds.

1:32.8

We recognize pretty early on that Psalm 130 is a lament Psalm.

1:38.6

And the psalmist is clearly in distress and he's calling on God to help him. He knows that the trouble that he's in

1:47.7

right now is caused by his own sin. And I think that is something that we can all recognize

1:54.3

possibly in our own lives. I think about different times where I've gotten myself into trouble

1:58.9

and I know it's my own fault. I recognize

2:01.8

that I have blatantly committed sin and there's the consequences of that is this trouble that I'm in.
