You were listening to the battle ready Bible study. My name is Aaron McManus, and I'm here and joined by my father, Irwin Raphael McManus. How are you doing this morning?

0:07.7

I'm doing great this point. How are you? I'm doing great. We have an amazing verse for today. It is Psalm 103.8. The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us

0:22.9

according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for

0:28.3

those who fear him. This is one of the most poetic and profound passages in the scriptures. It is just so beautiful and so powerful. Because it tells us who

0:43.7

God is. And that's a great starting point. He says, you need to know who God is before I tell you

0:50.5

who you are. The Lord is compassionate and gracious. That's God's posture toward us. And I love the

0:58.7

way he goes on and says, slow to anger because that's important. Because when you're talking

1:05.4

about God's relationship to us, God should always be angry with us, to be perfectly frank.

1:10.6

If you looked at the entire course of human history with all of... us, God should always be angry with us, to be perfectly frank.

1:16.9

If you looked at the entire course of human history, with all of the injustice and inequity and abuse and violence and wars, if I were God, I would be so angry with humanity

1:25.2

all the time and it wouldn't be slow.

1:27.4

It would be quick. But here he's saying and it wouldn't be slow it would be quick but here he's saying

1:29.1

no god is slow to anger and that he's abounding in love giving us this contrast and then he goes on to tell us

1:39.6

why this is important he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.

1:49.2

And so there's an interesting contrast. God is loving and compassionate. And he has a relationship

1:54.4

to us and that relationship has expectation. But at the same time, he does not treat or relate to us the way our sins deserve.

2:03.1

And I think this is so important. You know, probably two of the earliest verses I ever

2:07.5

memorized as a follower of Jesus was that word says, for all of sinned and fall short of the glory

2:14.7

of God. Letting me know that this is a common human experience,

2:18.4

that all of us have fallen short of God's intention for us,

2:22.3

that we've all fallen short of God's character,

2:25.7

that all of us have committed actions or thoughts
