I came across her from a reel on Instagram, where she was talking about how to protect your assets and figure out what debts people will be on the hook for if you are

randomly deported. It also talked about what happens to your savings account. And these are just

some of the things that we are not considering when it comes to someone being ripped away from

their life. I think we see children crying and being upset, but we don't realize that life still goes on.

They still have to pay rent.

They still would have to pay the mortgage on whatever house they're in.

They are on the hook for credit card debt.

It's something that on top of all of this trauma, people who are at risk of being deported, anyone, even U.S. citizens, have to make a plan for.

So I'm happy to have Maria on to discuss all of this. I think it's a really wide-ranging

conversation. We don't just talk about this kind of thing, but we get into her experience

as someone who came to this country from Mexico with her parents when she was nine.
