Today I'm with one of my favorite people, Shanti Feldhan. She is a friend. She's a social researcher and she is a relationship expert. She is going to

help us navigate marriage and relationships in the middle of this very, very difficult situation.

Thanks so much. I'm so glad you're doing this midweek episode to be able to

help people right now. This is exactly what we need because we are all stuck with our families

inside. And this is a important time for marriages. It's a time where we can either pull together or get pulled apart. So I felt like it was so important to bring you on.

If someone is just today getting introduced to you, can you give just a quick overview of you and your amazing body of work for the last couple of decades and where your focus is right now?

Oh, yeah, thanks. Well, sort of the bottom line about us is that

we're social researchers. My husband, Jeff, and I do a lot of work that's basically trying to

dig out the little things that make a big difference in relationships. And it's also based

entirely on these big research studies.

So probably our bestselling books that some people will be familiar with are called for women only and for men only, which is helping men and women understand each other.

And the most recent one that we did, a big three-year research study, is to help people understand how to have a thriving relationship in

their marriage around money. And we didn't know that we would be releasing this book one week

before a national emergency was declared. And now we have millions of people who are kind of stuck

at home worrying about money as well. Oh, yeah. I mean, A, for the people, there's, I think there's two groups of people.

The ones who are stuck at home worried about money and the ones who are stuck at home and money is already a huge issue.

My husband and I in 2007, he lost his job.

By the time 2008 came and the recession hit everyone else, we had our home foreclosed.

We lost all of our savings trying to stay afloat.

We ended up staying with a relative of mine for a summer while he applied for new jobs.
