The Prophet, Sallu al-a-a-a-salam, teaches us a very important principle to live by.

He says,

That the blessed or fortunate person is the one who learns lessons from others.

And this has such a comprehensive meaning and application.

We have an expression in English where we talk about learning from the mistakes of others.

So obviously the narration is also speaking about learning from the mistakes of others,

that somebody who is blessed is somebody who looks at mistakes

others have made and learns not to make those same mistakes. But the Prophet,

sallu al-a'u'll a. In his timeless eloquence, he actually broadens the scope of this understanding

and he says that the really truly blessed person

is the one who learns lessons from others, whether they be good or bad.

So now you're able to understand and appreciate why the Quran speaks so much about the people of the past.

It tells us about the remarkable people of the past, like Abraham a.m.

And Moses, and Issa, al-Islam, and Ayesa a.

And all the other prophets of Allah.

But it also tells us about some of the evil people in the past,

Fir'an and Qaroon and all of these terrible people,

all the nations that were destroyed for defying Allah,

Qomu Aad and Qom Lut and Qom Thamud.

Because the Prophet Sal Lari-Sam is teaching us here

that be a blessed, fortunate, smart,

sincere person by learning and extracting lessons from other people.
