The Hello, friends, and welcome back to the rabbit hole.

I'm your host, Danny, and today we are talking about Project Sunshine. I had to name

it that because naming it like body snatching conspiracy theory just would throw up to many red flags.

And I mean it was named Project Sunshine but like yeah, it's going to get weird. So this one actually

wasn't requested by anyone. I said a couple

episodes ago that I need to do another conspiracy theory that came true. So I'm doing that today.

Here we go. By 1945, World War II had been droning on for like six years.

Millions had lost their lives, and it was pretty clear that the war was finally coming to an end.

So Germany surrendered in May, but Japan was going to fight to the better end.

They were not going to surrender.

Around the time the war began, researchers approached the president of the U.S. with concerns about the nuclear weapons research being conducted in Germany.

They were like, weird things are happening.

The president listened, but he only allocated $6,000 to the research.

He was like, yeah, I get your concerns.

Here's some money.

Do what you can.

This research project didn't get fully funded or manned or its name until 1942.

The Manhattan Project was up and running. This project

was an effort to develop a functional atomic weapon. If you haven't seen Oppenheimer, go watch it.
