EPISODE 8!
In today's episode, Alex and I recap the past week of training (or lack thereof); Alex and I discuss some recent training, gaining some momentum, should you train through sickness, the importance of doing something hard everyday, and all things fueling for the marathon.
I hope you all enjoy today's episode as much as we did recording it. Considering sharing it with a friend if you enjoyed it or have enjoyed any of the episodes in the past! This is the quickest way we can grow.
About this series: Introducing Project 2:59!
Over the next nine weeks, I will be documenting my preparation and lead-up to the 2023 Columbus Marathon that will take place on October 15.
This will be my first attempt at the marathon distance, and I have set the ambitious goal of running 2:59 or faster to break the three-hour barrier and qualify for a future edition of The Boston Marathon.
Coaching me will be Alex Ostberg, a seven-time All-American who holds PRs of 3:58 in the Mile, 7:49 in the 3k, and 13:18 in the 5k. He has a Bachelor's Degree in human biology, a minor in psychology, and a master's in public health.
I will take you behind the scenes on my training, mindset, and more each week via podcast with Alex. We will dive into the ins and outs of marathon training, seeking to provide you value along the way.
I will also be documenting the training on social media so you can visually see the training and follow in a more in-depth way than ever before!

0:00.0 | Hello, my friends, and welcome back to Project 259. Today is episode 8, and today's conversation |
0:08.3 | was a little more uplifting than last week. Of course, I've been dealing with this hiccup, |
0:12.6 | and today we have some momentum to speak about. And so that was a lot of fun, kind of recapping |
0:17.1 | some things we're doing to hopefully get back on the track and give myself the best chance |
0:21.5 | of towing the line on October 15th in Columbus, Ohio, and hopefully chase a sub three-hour marathon. |
0:28.2 | And after we recap my recent training, we tackle some subjects such as training with sickness or |
0:33.6 | through sickness, running through pain, just to run through pain, the importance of doing |
0:37.2 | something hard every day. And then we top it off by kind of a scientific exploration into the |
0:42.7 | world of fueling done by Alex as the questions. He brings the scientific side to kind of break down |
0:48.5 | these complex subjects. And fueling is obviously a subject that relates to every single marathoner. |
0:52.9 | And so we thought we should tackle it |
0:54.7 | before the race comes up. One final note for you guys before we hop right into it is that Project |
0:59.6 | 259 is presented by Final Surge. Final Surge is the platform that Alex and I have been exclusively |
1:05.8 | using to write, construct, go back and forth on my training as we attempt running a sub three-hour marathon. |
1:12.9 | And a cool recent thing about Final Surge is, even though I haven't been running as much, |
1:17.0 | it's really showed that the platform is versatile and it's not just made for running. |
1:21.0 | We've used it to program cross-training workouts and Alex has used it as you'll hear in |
1:25.5 | today's episode to view trends on my training. |
1:27.7 | It's truly a world-class platform and I highly recommend checking it out. |
1:32.1 | It's used by top high school, collegiate and pro teams, including the OAC and NAZ |
1:36.3 | Elite. |
1:36.9 | If you're listening to this and you don't currently have a coach, I would highly recommend |
