Summary

EPISODE 7!

In today's episode, Alex and I recap the past week of training (or lack thereof), how to not overthink pain, but also be rational about what your body is telling you, the science of building/losing fitness, how to handle doubts, how to build momentum in ways that don’t directly relate to the training itself, and much more!

I hope you all enjoy today's episode as much as we did recording it. Considering sharing it with a friend if you enjoyed it or have enjoyed any of the episodes in the past! This is the quickest way we can grow.

About this series: Introducing Project 2:59!

Over the next nine weeks, I will be documenting my preparation and lead-up to the 2023 Columbus Marathon that will take place on October 15.

This will be my first attempt at the marathon distance, and I have set the ambitious goal of running 2:59 or faster to break the three-hour barrier and qualify for a future edition of The Boston Marathon.

Coaching me will be Alex Ostberg, a seven-time All-American who holds PRs of 3:58 in the Mile, 7:49 in the 3k, and 13:18 in the 5k. He has a Bachelor's Degree in human biology, a minor in psychology, and a master's in public health.

I will take you behind the scenes on my training, mindset, and more each week via podcast with Alex. We will dive into the ins and outs of marathon training, seeking to provide you value along the way.

I will also be documenting the training on social media so you can visually see the training and follow in a more in-depth way than ever before!

Hello, my friends, and welcome back to another episode of Project 259. Today is episode seven,

0:08.8

and if I sound a little sick, it is because I'm dealing with a little bit of a cold. So

0:12.5

bear with me. I should sound a little better in the episode, just a little more sick for this

0:17.3

introduction. Episode seven was absolutely fantastic. Thurily enjoyed it, and today, Alex and I

0:23.2

cover a lot of interesting subjects relating to my training. We actually first recap my recent

0:28.7

training and a hiccup slash injury I'm going through and kind of go into the details of that.

0:33.5

And then we go into some specific subjects such as how to not overthink pain, but also be rational

0:39.0

about what your body is telling you.

0:40.8

The science of building and losing fitness, which was, I think my favorite thing we covered.

0:44.8

That was absolutely fascinating.

0:46.4

How to handle doubts, how to build momentum in ways that don't directly relate to the training

0:50.5

itself.

0:51.5

And so much more.

0:52.5

Today's conversation was absolutely fantastic.

0:55.4

And despite having some unexpected adversity, I think we made the most of it in making a fire

1:02.2

episode. And I thoroughly enjoyed it and hope you guys do as well. Two quick notes for you

1:06.4

guys before we hop into it. My first note for you is I would greatly appreciate it if you give

1:10.5

us a follow, a five-star review, and share the show with a friend, a teammate, someone who you think

1:14.6

will find value and benefit from it. And then my second note for you is that Project 259 is presented

1:19.9

by Final Surge. Final Surge, in my opinion, is the one-stop shop for the relationship between

1:24.8

athlete and coach, and all of the different dynamics that go into that.

1:28.3

Alex and I have exclusively been using it to write my training, build it out as we chase a
