Summary

Introducing Project 2:59!

Over the next nine weeks, I will be documenting my preparation and lead-up to the 2023 Columbus Marathon that will take place on October 15.

This will be my first attempt at the marathon distance, and I have set the ambitious goal of running 2:59 or faster to break the three-hour barrier and qualify for a future edition of The Boston Marathon.

Coaching me will be Alex Ostberg, a seven-time All-American who holds PRs of 3:58 in the Mile, 7:49 in the 3k, and 13:18 in the 5k. He has a Bachelor's Degree in human biology, a minor in psychology, and a master's in public health.

I will take you behind the scenes on my training, mindset, and more each week via podcast with Alex. We will dive into the ins and outs of marathon training, seeking to provide you value along the way.

I will also be documenting the training on social media so you can visually see the training and follow in a more in-depth way than ever before!

You can listen wherever you find your podcasts by searching, "The Running Effect Podcast." Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the first ever episode of Project 259. I'm your host, Dominic Schleader.

0:08.7

And Project 259 is my pursuit and journey and documenting my buildup of trying to break the three-hour barrier in the marathon.

0:15.8

In my first ever marathon, which will be the 2003 Columbus Marathon, which will take place October 15th,

0:22.8

2020. So just under 10 weeks away. Along me in this journey is my coach, coach Alex,

0:28.8

for those who aren't familiar with Alex, he ran for Stanford University and then the University

0:33.3

of North Carolina, where he was a multi-time All-American. I think he holds PRs of 350 in the mile,

0:38.5

1318 and the 5K. And he also has a fast 10K as well. So he's more than qualified to coach me in this

0:45.2

journey. Today's episode is very much introductory. We kind of just kick things off, light

0:49.7

discussion, and we also get into a lot of subjects relating to training, how heat will affect things as I live

0:56.1

in Austin, how we're preparing for a marathon, what makes a marathon unique, all sorts of

1:00.6

different topics and things discussed in the first ever episode. I'm so excited to kick this thing off

1:06.3

and really show you guys and document what will be my hopefully first marathon and hopefully in

1:12.8

under three hours. I'm quite frankly, have no clue how this will go, but that's what makes it

1:17.0

exciting. And if you guys knew I would break three hours and if I knew I'd break three hours,

1:21.5

it wouldn't be exciting. So the fact that there's some doubt and some, who knows how it will go

1:26.9

type of thing makes it all the more exciting.

1:29.4

One quick note, if you have not already done so, I would greatly appreciate you giving us a

1:33.2

follow, a five-star review, and sharing today's episode with a friend who you think will benefit

1:37.2

from it.

1:37.9

And then one final note, this series is presented by Final Surge, a platform that Alex and I

1:42.9

are using to create our training and

1:45.4

really maximize my training and preparation leading into this sub three hour marathon attempt.
