My name is Toby Young and I'm an associate editor.

I recently spoke to Wilfred Riley, an assistant professor of political science at Kentucky State University,

about his new book, Hate Crime Hokes, how the Left is selling a fake race war.

I began by asking him about the legal definition of a hate crime and then dug down into his finding, reported in his book, that approximately 15% of hate crimes turn out to be hoaxes.

Why do so many people perpetrate these hoaxes? What's in it for

them? And why are we so willing to take their claims at face value? Professor Riley touched on some of these issues in a recent piece for Colette entitled
