A lifetime achievement award is being given to pro-choice Senator

Dick Durbin by the Archdiocese of Chicago. Joining us to talk about this, Mary Kate Zander,

she's president of Illinois Right to Life based in Chicago. Mary Kate, welcome back to issues,

What can you tell us about this lifetime achievement award being given to Illinois Senator Dick Durbin

by the Archdiocese Chicago office of human dignity and solidarity?

Yeah, so it's being presented to him at an event called the Keep Hope Alive Benefit,

and they are presenting it to him, so they say, for the purpose of honoring his contributions

to immigration policies during his time in Washington.

Obviously, at this point, it's been a national uproar, not just because the senator is a pro-choice member of the

U.S. Senate, but also because he was at one time a very pro-life individual. And for about eight

years, actually, in the 1980s, he was the master of ceremonies at the Springfield March for Life.

And then for a variety of reasons, over the last few decades, he has changed his stance

on the life issue.

Numerous bishops have come out.

I think it's been over 10 at this point, have come out and said they cannot proceed
