I'm Ravi Gupta, and this is the private equity episode.

We've done a bunch of segments on private equity, whether it's housing, health care, elder care, daycare, K-12.

And in some of those segments, I've been kind of skeptical of the role of private equity.

And we have a listener who works within the industry,

close to the private equity industry, is a huge expert. He sent me a message online and said,

hey, like if you ever want anybody on to offer a different perspective on private equity,

I'm here. And I've welcomed them on. And he and I, Matt, his name is Matt Checkman.

He'll be on in a little bit to talk about his experience with private equity.

And I think he gives a nuanced take that's more positive than I've been on private equity.

And I think that's really valuable because we are the lost debate after all.

I then talked to Carrie's son who wrote wrote a best-selling memoir called Private Equity

that recently came out.

She worked for a hedge fund slash private equity fund slash hybrid fund and wrote all about

her experience working as the assistant to the person who ran that firm and then her decision

to leave.

My intention in that conversation was to talk all about private equity, but actually because

we had both had similar experiences as assistants and sort of powerful people, we spent most of that

conversation talking about what it's like being assistant. And that sort of, it turned into a little

bit of a devilware's Prada in real life segment, which actually is far more entertaining than

how we'd plan to spend the time. And so stick around for that.
