I wasn't expecting to still be talking about football-related matters some sort of two days after that glorious, glorious final.

Glorious failure.

But we are because it has moved into a new level with footballers combining essentially to deliver the sort of

criticism to this government and the sort of truth to power that puts both my profession

and I'm afraid the Labour Party and of course most clearly the leader of the Labour Party, it puts us all to shame.

Absolutely no problem at all. Imagine how snobbish it would be for me. And I may once have done this,

but we are all works in progress. I may once have said, how can it fall into a footballer to speak

truth? As if somehow, by dint of being a footballer, you're less qualified to comment in the public space than

me, for example, or somebody with a column in the Sun newspaper, or Ian Duncan Donuts.

And the idea that because you are a footballer and therefore more likely perhaps to have come from

what we still call a working class background than a conservative MP is,

you should somehow be less likely or less qualified to comment in the public space.

Rashford, we knew already, was a man possessed of leadership qualities that most politicians can only dream of.

But my goodness me, his shadow cabinet is looking tasty,

isn't it? I don't know what role Tyrone Mings would take, but I presume at the moment he could

pretty much have the pick of them. And it is an unprecedented moment, but it's also a really

strange one. And as ever on this programme, I'm very keen to understand why this has happened

and most importantly, how this has happened. I'm also very keen to hear and learn what it means

and how it lands in your world. You know and I know exactly what Pretty Patel was trying to do

when she refused to support players taking the need.
