Hey, everybody, welcome back to the Giants Insider podcast.

It is June 9th, which is kind of originally one of the target dates for people inside MLB as they hope to be back by July 4th. I think they thought they would have a three-week spring training, spring training 2.0. And they're kind of looking right around this time frame, June 9, June 10th of a good time to get guys back and get them ready so they could get back on the field in early July and be there on July 4th, kind of take over the sporting scene.

Obviously, none of that has happened. It does not appear there any closer to a resolution.

Another proposal by the owners this week on Monday morning

quickly got leaked, quickly got shot down by the players, some of them very vocal about how

much they disagreed with it. So nothing new there, but we do have some action this week. Something to

talk about, at least from baseball standpoint, the MLB draft is Wednesday night and

Thursday night. The first round is Wednesday. The rest of the draft is on Thursday afternoon here in

San Francisco. It is five rounds this year, not 40 rounds, just five. So a big difference. It's going to be a

much different experience. I personally think it was extremely

short-sighted by Major League Baseball teams to push for that. I know they're trying to save some

money. If you go through it, they've actually deferred most of the bonuses to future years.

And undrafted players are capped at 20,000. So I think they're trying to save money. It seems

ridiculous when you think about how

important young players are to the game and how important it is to have your farm system

constantly being replenished. And, you know, as I pointed out over and over again on our website

in stories, there are a lot of really good giants who were drafted in the late rounds.

Matt Duffy, 18th round, Brian Wilson, 24th round. Sergio Romo, 28th round. I think Kevin Palau

was really late in the late 30s, even from last year's team, and you look at some of the younger
