The WTO, the World Trade Organization, the U.S. decision to permit to welcome People's Republic of China into the WTO in the late 20th century.

It was the beginning of Chinese exploitation of the WTO and its rules-based order.

Alan here describes how Donald Trump, recognizing that, confronted it and dealt with it in his fashion.

The WTO is no longer exploited by the People's Republic

of China. End result, there's no hiding behind rules that you're violating. China's out in the open

with its practices of dumping and subsidizing and stealing intellectual property.

The WTO has become completely irrelevant and Donald Trump has a great deal to do with that. In fact,

in fact, deserves all the credit because what he did in his first term is he essentially

neutered the WTO court that was authorized by international law to impose penalties on countries that didn't

abide by WTO decisions in various trade policy disputes. And if the court cannot legitimately

apply any penalties, then the WTO becomes absolutely worthless, even for countries like China that have

tried to exploit it for so many years and had exploited it so successfully for so many years.
