This season, which is exclusively for our premium listeners, we are reading Beyer Wolf.

Beowulf is a fascinating piece of historical literature, as it is written by an anonymous Saxon poet.

The text is the only surviving copy,

and we will be reading the translation by Leslie Hall,

a professor of English and history in the College of William and Mary in 1892.

We know our listeners are as unique as our novels and lucky for you.

This is just a preview to give you an idea of what to expect from this season.

Beowulf is a poem, set in Scandinavia between the 5th and 6th centuries.

Beowulf, a hero of the Geats, comes to the rescue of Hrothgar, the king of the Danes, whose Meadhall has been

under attack from a mysterious monster named Grendel for 12 years. The story has vivid descriptions

of the landscapes of Scandinavia, incredibly vivid characters,

and a wonderful rhythm and cadence that I think will be perfect to help you drift off to sleep.
