This season we are reading Rainbow Valley by L.M. Montgomery, first published in 1919.

Lucy Maud Montgomery was a beloved Canadian author who was most famous for creating Anne of Green Gables,

the story of an imaginative orphan girl on Prince Edward Island.

A prolific writer, she wrote 20 novels and hundreds of short stories, poems and essays,

always setting her stories in the same location, capturing its beauty and community.

Montgomery herself had her own personal struggles with depression, community.

but she always channeled her love of life and nature into her resilient and complex

characters, making her certainly one of Canada's national treasures.

The following is a preview to give you an idea of what to expect from this season.

Rainbow Valley is the next story in the Anne of Green Gables series in order of publication.

If you are unfamiliar with the story so far, you can go back to

our previous seasons on the bookshelf to hear Anne of Greengables, Anne of Avonlea, Anne of the

island, Anne's House of Dreams. This novel is a leap away from Anne herself, however,

and follows more the community on Prince Edward Island,

now that Anne has her own children.

This is actually Book 7 in the series,

but as Anne of the Windy Poplars and Anne of Ingallside were written and published

so much later, they are not yet available to the public domain. We hope you will join us for this season.
