Charles Dickens was a prolific English novelist and social critic,

widely regarded as one of the greatest writers of the Victorian era.

Known for his vivid characters, intricate plots, and keen observations of social issues,

Dickens brought attention to the struggles of the poor and the injustices of industrial

society. His works, including great expectations and Oliver Twist, may be a little too bleak for the

bookshop, but nonetheless are considered classics of English literature.

Dickens's writing often highlighted the harsh realities of life in 19th century England,

whilst also offering a glimmer of hope through the potential for personal and social transformations.

His ability to blend humour, pathos and social commentary

continues to resonate with readers today.

He published over 60 short stories in his life,

often serialized like his novels in magazines of the day.
