Good evening and welcome to the Sleepy Bookshelf. This season we will be reading Jane Eyre by Charlotte

Bronte, first published in 1847. This is a book that has often been requested by our listeners

and was so excited to bring it to you now. We know our listeners are as unique as our novels

and lucky for you, our bookshelf is varied with lots of different types of stories to lull you into a deep sleep.

The following is a preview to give you an idea of what to expect from this season.

Jane Eyre is an intimate portrait of our intelligent and resilient,

titan heroine. We follow Jane from her turbulent childhood into an adulthood that is as rich and

emotionally charged as the books she is so fond of reading. After aging out of boarding school,

Jane places an ad in a newspaper and is hired as a governess for a young French girl who is the

ward of a wealthy man. She takes up residence at Thornfield Hall where feelings begin to

star within her. The object of her affection is the master of the house, the mysterious Edward

Rochester. But she fears that their differences in upbringing and social standing will keep them

apart. When strange noises in the halls at night go unexplained, Jane grows curious about the

stormy past of the man she loves and questions her own place in the world. We hope you will join us
