I spoke with my colleague Gregory Kaapley of Defense and Foreign Affairs about the fun

fact that polling in Great Britain shows that Prince William, the heir apparent, is far

more popular than any of the other royals, even his wife, Princess Kate, and certainly

more popular than the King, who is popular, but Prince William is very high.

Gregory gave me a lesson in how this helps the royals, helps the crown, helps the dignity

of the Commonwealth, and at the same time, as a precedent in the 1930s.

Also Gregory links it to George III, and the unhappy fact that George III's sons were

not more popular and weren't able to pitch in and hold together the empire at that time.
