There's also a lot of AI fetishism going on here as well.

0:17.3

Like, oh, we'll fight coronavirus with AI.

0:19.4

But to me, that's just more hype. I mean,

0:21.8

I have my explanation for why that is based on how AI is actually very good for calibrating factory

0:26.8

machinery. But I want to hear what you have to say. Yeah, I mean, I think this is a case of

0:32.4

Silicon Valley people seeing a political problem and assuming it's a technical problem. And like,

0:38.8

in this case, what problems, the problems that we actually have in responding to coronavirus have

0:44.5

more to do with just like the complete failure of our, you know, existing political structures to

0:51.9

respond like in a reasonable way.

0:58.6

And, you know, in the U.S., like, we're seeing quite a wide variety of different responses from like local, state, and federal levels.

1:02.5

And, you know, the biggest problem I would say is just like the health care system.

1:06.1

The health care system is total bullshit.

1:07.6

This system was never designed to actually take care of people during a

1:11.5

pandemic. And like, it's not obviously. And, you know, in a way, I can't really blame people

1:16.8

in Silicon Valley for like trying to put their energy towards COVID-19 as opposed to whatever,

1:21.4

you know, enterprise marketing software they would be working on stead. It's maybe like a net win

1:25.5

for the industry that we're not having new features developed for things like that. But at the same time, I think it's

1:31.6

the fact that if people actually believe that this is the best use of their time, then it speaks

1:36.8

to this kind of tragic failure of imagination. It's really like narrowing of the political

1:41.4

horizons where the only possibilities they imagine are either this

1:45.0

failed state and this like, you know, this political power vacuum where you have private

1:50.5

companies doing everything. Or you have like, I don't know, tech companies rising to prominence
