I spoke to my colleague Anatole, Leaven at the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft

about the report that the U.S. is planning to base for the first time in 15 years nuclear weapons,

probably B61 gravity bombs, at an RAF base in the United Kingdom.

I asked, is this going to disrupt the election process, the politics of the United Kingdom. And Atoll responded in part about England,

but then he turned to the question of how it will affect mainland Europe, Germany he mentions, France he mentions, the opposition

in Germany particularly. Nuclear weapons were a very big controversy in the 1980s when the US was looking to base nuclear

weapons many nuclear weapons on intermediate rockets that could reach the Moscow in minutes.

And there were mass protests.

Will they come again?

Unknown.

But here's Anatole's response to nuclear weapons in the United Kingdom in the event of conflict with Russia.

If this leads to really serious political upheaval, you know, as opposed to simply, you know, protests.

It will not be in Britain.

It will be in parts of Europe where there is a you whether it's been a great growth of

populism and there you know you you could see a major growth in support for in Germany for example
