This is John Batcher, a conversation with my colleague Colonel Jeff McCausen, the United States Army retired CBS News about nuclear weapons exercise held every year by NATO.

This exercise in early October, Jeff tells me, to prepare for the worst day in the history

of mankind, a nuclear weapon in the 21st century, either side, anyone. It would end what

we understand to be history in Europe and begin something, an anarchy, a nightmare.

I've recently gone again through the results of the two bombs that were dropped in anger in 1945.

Long after the bombs have been forgotten by the birds and the

atmosphere and the terrain of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The damage continues into the third and fourth generation,

the doubts, the threats, the fear. One bomb. Hiroshima, not a very big bomb, a little bigger bomb in Nagasaki. In any

event, you want peace, you prepare for war, and that's NATO NATO but still a nuclear weapon it's a terror weapon it's

not a weapon for a battlefield doesn't at least that's what I'm told This is Colonel Jeff McCausen describing the NATO nuclear exercise annual event involving aircraft and personnel from many different nations participating.

Always looking at the fact that Vladimir Putin and the Kremlin continue to threaten now and again nuclear weapons because of Ukraine conflict. air force and Navy exercise involving

aircraft. We certainly were aware of this type of exercise which is called steadfast noon occurring. An annual

exercise has gone on for many years normally the first couple of weeks of

October involves a couple of thousand Allied military personnel, about 60 aircraft.
