This is John Batchelor, conversation with my colleague Bob Zimmerman, about a SpaceX launch where there were 160 small sats inside the payload.

Small sats from everywhere. Bob makes the point that this is driving business, that you

can hire a space on a space-ex launch, go into orbit. Driving business not only at SpaceX in Boca Chica and the Cape, but also

for other startups.

How does it work?

Bob Zimmerman explains, SpaceX is creating a market that it's overwhelming and it needs

all the other booster companies to come in and participate in the market.

This is an interesting launch, John, that happened this past weekend. They do what they call

transport emissions, which is they offer a launch with as many small sats as possible at low cost.

So 116 payloads were launched on the 11th

transport emissions past weekend, which means this just

demonstrate once again how lowering the cost to launch brings customers out.

Even though SpaceX is pulling in a lot of business on these transport emissions and

a lot of payloads, many did, some of these orbital cugs by the way or deployment systems, they're

not actual satellites. But it brings out business for them, but that's not, they're not

taking up the whole market. There's, the lowering costs is working so much business

that there's plenty for others, rocket startups as well,

which is the way you're seeing rocket startups appearing

all over the place.
