Summary

The Cine-Files has spent over a month exploring the life of soldiers and war with great films like The Bridge on The River Kwai, The Great Escape and First Blood and they were definitely looking for something lighter. So, when The cine-Files Advisory Board suggested Mary Poppins, John and Steve jumped at the chance.

Hi, this is Steve. On June 29th at 3pm Pacific Time, John and I logged on to the first

0:06.9

ever meeting of the Cinefiles Advisory Board. Now we knew the board was made up of some

0:11.3

of our most loyal and active fans, but we didn't know just how much fun and how useful

0:16.7

our conversation was going to be. One of the questions we asked was where they thought

0:21.4

the show should go after our recent journey into films about soldiers and war. The truth

0:25.7

is, I can't remember which one of our board members suggested Mary Poppins, but the

0:30.2

moment it came out of their mouth, the entire advisory board, including me and John, were

0:35.0

all for it. After all, Mary Poppins is an absolutely incredible film as impressive in its

0:41.3

own way as bridge on the River Quai. The technical mastery, incredible songs, wonderful designs,

0:47.6

and fantastic performances, particularly from Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke, make this

0:52.6

an indelible cinematic experience from beginning to end. And yes, we do discuss Dick

0:57.6

Van Dyke's atrocious Cockney accent. So, if you haven't seen it, I highly recommend

1:02.6

Jolly Holiday at our website, Cinefiles.net, where you can buy or stream Mary Poppins along

1:07.7

with every other movie we've ever reviewed. And if you're supporting the show on patreon.com

1:13.3

slash the Cinefiles, we just released our August schedule and a brand new Cinefiles short

1:19.6

on our experience at film festivals, both as fans and as an actor and filmmaker. So that's

1:25.4

Film Festivals on Patreon and Mary Poppins, part one, this Friday on the Cinefiles.
