Gregory Coppley, editor and publisher of Defense and Foreign Affairs,

about the fog of protest from Nairobi, Kenya.

The alarming reports include tear gas being fired, shots being fired.

Several dead. Five is mentioned, but it's still chaotic. The police opened fire as the protesters were near the Parliament.

It's all very unclear.

The President of the country has made remarks.

There will be clarity going forward, but Gregory reflects that Kenya was

is the prize of the Commonwealth, the King you will remember, with the Queen.

He made a visit there early in his reign.

And now, a mystery. Nairobi, Kenya, Jem of East Africa, now a fog of

tear gas.

well yes in fact uh... the british government has always held up kanya as an example

of uh of an advanced economy in Africa and in many ways it is,

but it has always had great fluidity, shall we say, and how they approach elections.

The elections there are always violent and the response is often heavy-handed.

So it's it's a disappointment I think to a lot of supporters of Kenya

and who and people who had held her that Kenya would defy the current African trend for autocratic governance

and if you like suppression of democracy.
