We've talked a lot about what we like about Star Trek and can continue to talk about that.

But it's also worth mentioning that there are criticisms of the utopian vision that Star Trek sets out.

One of which is just that it's not realistic.

You know, the idea that like you have this sort of like, you know, post-atomic horror period and then from there people sort of magically pull out of it and then magically invent a bunch of things

that sort of solve all human needs. And then from there, everyone just kind of needs to worry

about exploring space. Some people would say that that seems like wish fulfillment. Are they

right, Light of Gold? I need to go on a bit of a rant here because this is part of...

This is part of a larger thing that I think is happening in leftist criticism in general

and specifically in kind of everybody's criticism of sci-fi and fantasy, which I think people

have stopped understanding what sci-fi and fantasy are and what think people have stopped understanding what sci-fi and

fantasy are and what they do. So, Ashling, and our new issue has this really wonderful piece coming out,

which is about, she's talking very specifically about the trend that you see, especially on,

you know, very popular, like movie explainer videos on YouTube, for example, where they, you know,

they look at a movie and they try to

solve what the movie is, like, solve the puzzle of it. So, like, in Blade Runner, is Harrison Ford

a replicant or not? You know, you've got to solve it. It's you've got to know. Side note,

all movies are just hot people talking in front of a soundtrack. I just want to put that out there as an explainer that can just be applied to all movies.

It's true.

Every now and then the sound cuts out, or you've got ugly people, and you're like, why am I even here?
