Five US senators are asking for comment and clarification and action because of an unexplained

pneumonia said to be on the mainland of China.

At the same time, my colleague Gordon Chang has just returned from Tokyo after a business event.

And he compares his most recent return from Tokyo in December to his return from

Tokyo in October. Something has changed. Significantly, the CDC is present suddenly. Now I recall that Gordon and I were reporting on the

South China Morning Post report in early January 2000 of an unexplained pneumonia.

Perhaps this is a repetition, perhaps it's a false lead.

In any event, what we didn't know then, we know now to be exceedingly cautious about unexplained

We returned from Tokyo yesterday, and in order to get a boarding card on United, we had to provide a contact address and a contact phone number in the U.S. And we had to consent for United to give that information to the CDC.
