This is John Bachelor.

What follows as an excerpt from a conversation with Jonathan Shenzer, the Foundation for the Defense of democracies,

about the Gaza War, the present condition of tunnel fighting in the Gaza War.

In the north, the northern part of Gaza Gaza where the Gaza City towers are, that has been secured

and the tunnels there cleared out.

In the center, Con Yunus, the camp that is now an armed fortress. The tunnels are said to be far more

elaborate than in the north. Israelis are now concentrating their firepower and

their search in Con Yunus where they believe the

hostages are being held.

Also the leadership of Hamas they believe is in Conunis.

But I learned from Jonathan that the tunnels continue on to Raffak, the southern part of the Gaza Strip.

Many years ago, those tunnels were discovered and that was a route that the Hamas was using to smuggle weapons

and rocket parts into Gaza.

The Egyptian regime destroyed them eventually.

We're told, However, the question now is, are they operating again?

Were they rebuilt? Why is it that the Egyptian authorities are saying no to the IDF request to go into Sinai.

We don't know the answer at this point, but note that if the tunnels continue into Sinai, that would be an exit an entrance place for Hamas fighters, for weapon systems, and that would be a route to flee.

It's a puzzle. The tunnels of Rafa, question mark. Here's

Jonathan to explain. At this point now the Israelis are saying that there's roughly 350 miles of tunnels under the Gaza Strip and a lot of the complex ones are in Han Yunus.

hand and they're not likely to lose it. And so they're going to go further south.
