This is John Batchel. Colleague Teresa Fallon from Brussels characterizes the EU leaders who raced from their vacations to the White House in these last days to meet with the president and talk about the outcome for Ukraine that is desirable.

Teresa characterizes them, however, as less than significant.

She uses a word that is associated with Snow White.

It was a good sign to see all of these leaders in Europe, NATO and the EU Commission

altogether around the desk of Donald Trump in the White House.

And I think that they kind of cobbled something together.

Nevertheless, it's not what they expected. They wanted more strong security guarantees from the Trump administration. And that is not clear at all at this point. And the issue of sequencing is key here because the meeting in the White

House with European leaders was before the actual announcement on Thursday about the trade.

So I would say that these things are interlinked. So the Europeans feel, there are some feelings

that I, just talking to people over coffee, there's a, that

the Europeans kind of, you know, they went to the last, they really tried their best and

that they're not being rewarded for that and that they expected kind of a better deal from

the Trump administration because they're both supposed

to be democracies and that they're working together to kind of counter China.

So I think that there's a growing, at some polls have noted already that there is an increasing

negative sentiment towards the Trump administration. So that could cause friction in the

future. Right now, it's a strategic move by the EU because they don't have any other options,

really, but to get along with the Trump administration, some have accused them of appeasement,
