This is John Batchel, conversation with colleague John Yu at the Civitas Institute. He also is a professor

at the University of Texas at Austin in civic leadership and a professor of law at Berkeley Law School,

discussing peace kept by the United States, having accepted the mantle of peacekeeper from Great Britain once upon a time.

And how is the U.S. measured?

And it has succeeded. You could also look back and say the period between the Napoleonic War and World War I, also a period of relatively great peace and prosperity was unwritten by the British,

that was called the Pax Britannica.

And you could say the period after 1945 has been the Pax Americana.

And scholars would say the World War I and World War II in a way were problems because

the United States wasn't yet ready to accept the mantle of leadership that the British tried to pass onto us.
