This is John Batchelor, colleague Jim McTag, just back from Indiana, going to Costco to see how the recession talk looks for the people who shop very carefully and in great abundance in Lancaster County.

Jim's report includes an 86-inch television, much talked about with the store manager.

It was packed.

You could see some tariff buying.

They were stocking up on paper towels, mostly food stuff.

I saw one guy buy a television. I haven't seen that in a while. It was only a 55-inch TV.

I say that because that's bigger than any television I have, but they now have 86-inch TVs,

which are as big as, they look like billboards.

One of the store managers told me they do sell quite a few 86-inch televisions, but I didn't

see it. I just saw mostly food stuff going out the door. I note that the goods on the shelves

are still primarily from

China. So I assume that they had these in stock

before the tariff talk. Did you see any empty shelves?

Because that's a fear of the big box stores.

No. I did not see

any empty shelves at all.

This Costco is pretty good about keeping the shelves full.

So there's no supply shortage.
