Hello, friends, Luke here with a bonus interview I'm particularly excited to share. You might consider

0:05.4

this a supplement of sorts to my recent solo episode on Pink Floyd's Adam Hart Mother and the

0:10.6

conversation I had with Ron Gieson. Now, this one is with Nick Mason, Pink Floyd's drummer from

0:17.1

its very earliest incarnation way back in 1964, the Sigma 6, the T set, the Pink Floyd sound.

0:24.8

Nick was there through all of it going on to play the drums on every Pink Floyd album from

0:29.7

1967's The Piper at the Gates of Dawn through 2014's The Endless River.

0:37.6

You know, I'm curious what you think accounts for this moment we seem to be in right now

0:43.3

and, you know, what you think explains the, you know, enduring appeal of Pink Floyd,

0:48.5

particularly to younger audiences today.

0:51.5

Well, I don't really know.

0:52.8

I mean, it could just be four desperate elderly men trying one last gasp at being pop stars.

1:02.1

I think there's still, I think one thing that comes out towards the sort of end of one's

1:08.5

working life is what fun it is to play music and you end up just

1:13.3

thinking what would I really like to do and to some extent one of the reasons I'm out with a band

1:19.6

is because of the exhibition because I enjoyed working on the exhibition and I think it's a

1:26.2

great thing to do but the one thing that was missing was live exhibition and I think it's a great thing to do, but the one thing that was missing was live performance.

1:30.3

And I think it reminded me that the real, you know, the core of this whole thing is to be actually on stage playing with friends,

1:40.3

enjoying playing music. That's the great privilege.
