This is John Batchel, a colleague Peter Husey of the National Institute for Deterrent Studies,

comments on what the American public knows about an atomic weapon, if used, what it will mean,

what the Chinese public knows about atomic weapons, what it will mean,

and how it is that compared to the United States,

China is a blank, a blank when it comes to educating the public. Peter explains,

neither public is well informed of the catastrophe that would follow forever, but the Chinese public

is being deceived. Here's Peter. More of this tonight.

I would answer that the American people are better educated than they were, but they're still not

very well educated as to the overall effects of nuclear weapons. But if you ask about the Chinese public,

the Chinese public know almost nothing because the Chinese government keeps everything away

from them and talks about nuclear weapons rarely, if ever, in terms of, it says we have a minimal

deterrent. We don't even keep our warheads with

the missiles. We have very little, a few weapons. We're only defensive. And it's the bad guys

in the United States and so forth of who we have to defend against.
