Often we're not at the table when those decisions are made too because under the medical model,

charity is usually structured in a way that disabled people actually aren't part of the organizations largely.

I was always very active with the Muscular Distrophy Association, your standard neoliberal charity.

office and I would not see a single staff member with any kind of disability who identified as

having a disability who, I mean, it was crazy to me. And I'm like, how do you have, nobody in

office has a wheelchair, uses a wheelchair, and you are an organization that is fighting

neuromuscular diseases. Like, get out of here. Like, so we're not even at the table there,

and that's because we're often told, this is what you need, right? And that's because we live in

such an undemocratic society that we don't, we're just like, well, you guys, this is what you need.

We're smart enough.

We able body people can tell you what to do.

And so the social model is a direct response to that medical model where we're saying, actually,

we're going to take some of that power back, right?

Like, we're going to actually make some decisions, democratize things.

I mean, I guess that's the end result once you unpack and unravel the full social model of disability.
